The town was then called VICUS AUDITIACUS. 16th century The original name of Badoit water is Fontfort (fontaine forte = fountain of gas) 1778 Study by 2 doctors on the waters of Saint-Galmier. Richard Martin de Laprade, member of the Académie des Sciences and advisor to Louis XVI, praises the "aperitive, digestive and exhilarating" virtues of water in a treatise. Water was also used to relieve a variety of ailments, such as kidney pain and minor female complaints, and to aid digestion. 1827 The town grants permission to exploit the spring. 1837 Auguste Saturnin BADOIT, aged 36, obtains a lease on the Fontfort spring. He industrialized the bottled water. His strength: advertising its benefits. He multiplied the number of outlets: pharmacies, grocery stores, hotels, etc., and extended his sales network to the Lyon, Paris and Midi regions. To avoid competition, he bought other springs that would bear his name. It was the first mineral water to be sold in bottles. 1857 Badoit "advertises" in the Lyon Courier 1858 Auguste Saturnin Badoit dies, succeeded by his wife and daughter. Badoit sells 1.5 million bottles a year. 1874 The label appeared for the first time on Badoit bottles, replacing the stamps. 1883 Badoit opens a glassworks in Veauche to manufacture its bottles. 1896 - 1897 Agreement with the town to provide free water to Baldomériens. 1913 The metal capsule replaces the cork stopper 1950 Badoit leaves the pharmacy to be sold in supermarkets. Sales take off. 1958 Annual production reaches 37 million bottles. 1960 Jean Feldman's famous slogan "Et Badadi Badadoit ... la meilleure eau c'est la Badoit" becomes cult. 1965 - 1967 BADOIT becomes part of SA Evian.
