Ben (1935) - Lot 38
Ben (1935) Yes, 2002. White correction drawing on paper, signed lower right. 18 x 32 cm. Listed in the catalog raisonné under number 10694. Slight wear. Without glass. Ben Vautier is a French artist of Swiss origin. Established in Nice around 1950, his store became the meeting place of the Ecole de Nice, composed of the famous artists César, Arman, etc. Ben Vautier became known in the 60s with his writings. Post-modern, he belongs to the Fluxus movement, and expresses himself through performances and installations. For him, everything is art. Very involved in the contemporary scene, he supports artists himself and gets involved in social issues. He is represented in public collections throughout the world, and in France in particular, at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. His gallery owner is none other than Daniel Templon in Paris and Brussels. The panels that decorate the facade of the Fondation du doute in Blois, are like our work Oui, a piece of art to question your definition of art. Oui is a work of art that comes from the writings of Ben Vautier. These three white letters standing out on a black background are enigmatic. Each collector can see in it what he wishes: acceptance, acquiescence, questioning? Only you can decide!
