Pablo PICASSO (1881-1973) - Lot 20
Pablo PICASSO (1881-1973) Pablo PICASSO (1881-1973) Turned round cup, Bird in the sun 1952. In white earthenware, oxidized paraffin decoration, white and black enamel, printed in 500 copies. Authentic replica. Marked Madoura plein feu and Edition Picasso on the reverse. Diameter : 15,5 cm. H. Height : 4,5 cm. Firing bubbles, scratches, slight wear, a chip. Bibliography: Picasso, Catalogue of the ceramic work published 1947-1971. Alain RAMIÉ, Éditions MADOURA. An identical bowl is reproduced on p.95 ill. 174. The artist Picasso contributes to the renewal of ceramics in the 20th century, when he discovers Madoura's workshop in Vallauris, and realizes the creative possibilities offered by this material, until then considered as a minor art. The clay inspired him, and his creative imagination, combined with the rigorous production methods of the workshop, did the rest. We find in the drawing of this cup the energy of the line of this great artist-craftsman, once again in the service of Nature, in the drawing of the bird under the sun.
