Pablo PICASSO (1881-1973) d'après - Lot 19
Pablo PICASSO (1881-1973) d'après Pablo PICASSO (1881-1973) after The Lobster. Aquatint in colours on laid paper by Roger Lacourière. Proof annotated " engraved and printed by R.Lacourière, Paris 45 ", numbered 48/ 100, signed by Picasso. Subject : 26,5 x 45,7 cm. - Sheet : 39 x 56 cm. Very slightly yellowed, some pitting, foxing. Slight traces of folds, including a diagonal trace from the bottom to the right of the subject, small fold pinched in the upper right corner. Although his engraved work is much less known than his paintings or drawings, it is nevertheless a field in which Pablo Picasso has -here again- particularly distinguished himself. Reappropriating the classic genre of art history, the still life, he painted them at different periods in his career. The motif of the lobster can be found in several of his works, such as Still Life with a Cat and a Lobster, 1962 (Private Collection) and Cat and Lobster, 1965 (Fondation Beyeler). This brightly coloured aquatint was engraved in the eminent workshop of Roger Lacourière who, in addition to Picasso, contributed to the distribution of the engraved work of many major artists of the early 20th century such as Dali, Matisse, Braque and Chagall.
